Welcome to the Environmental Engineering Program Website
Management of environmental resources to protect human health and the systems that support life is one biggest challenges facing modern society. In
recognition of the interdisciplinary nature of these challenges, Berkeley’s Environmental Engineering Program provides students with training needed to
address current and future environmental issues. Graduate coursework and research in the environmental engineering program is focused on the following
areas:
Air Quality Engineering (AQE)
Environmental Fluid Mechanics & Hydrology (FMH)
Water Quality Engineering (WQE)
Students also are encouraged to develop a broad set of problem-solving skills through courses and research in related fields including: Earth and
Planetary Sciences, Energy & Resources Group, Environmental Science, Policy & Management, Integrative Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Plant & Microbial
Biology, and Public Health.
Graduate applicants: Students with backgrounds in all areas of science and engineering are welcome in the environmental engineering program. For some students, it may be
necessary to complete several pre-requisite classes before enrolling in the program. Please explore the links in the toolbar above and see
the Graduate Admissions page for further information.
Please NOTE: It is recommended that you list one of the sub-areas above (AQE,
WQE, FMH) in the "Other" field on the graduate admissions application
